Head West: Sites and Sights in WA

Finally after what feels like an eternity, the state border restrictions and Australians can travel freely again from coast to coast. For many caravan owners that means it's time to get back on the road and for some, that bucket list tour of Western Australia. If you're planning a trip from the eastern states to WA, we've put together a few tips and ideas for you. If you'd like to be planning a caravan trip to WA but you don’t have a caravan, then the first thing to do is speak with Jade Caravan Finance about a pre-approved loan so you can proceed with your purchase.

Selecting and Preparing Your Caravan

If you are purchasing a caravan with the intention of heading west, you will want a type and model that is suited to the conditions. It is a long drive and in places a long distance between towns and rest stop facilities. So ensuring you have self-sustaining facilities in your vehicle is an important consideration. Think large or extra water tanks, plenty of storage space, external storage for jerry cans and spare tyres and a good sized fridge for your food and beverages. Solar power would be strongly advised so you are not reliant on staying at parks.

While there are plenty of places in WA to visit via highways and sealed roads, there are also plenty of locations accessible via tracks and trails. If these are on your itinerary, then an off-road or semi-off road caravan would be a good idea. Pretty much all our Australian caravan manufacturers have an off-road model in their range so you have plenty of choice.

When it comes to finance, there is no difference between our Safe and Secured Caravan Loans for on road, hybrid or off-road vehicles. The same loan is suitable for all types of caravans.

Sights and Sites

WA is a huge state and travellers can choose to cover a wide range of both coastal and inland locations in the one trip. Referring to www.westernaustralia.com before you leave or even en route, can provide some great ideas on what to see and where to go.

In the era of COVID-19, it’s wise to stay across news updates as border restrictions and other conditions can change with little warning.

If you decide to start from Perth, Big 4 for example have a park in Midland. From there you can head north or south to start your WA exploration. If you want to visit Rottnest Island, it is a ferry ride from Perth but to our knowledge, it is only for passengers not vehicles. But they have great accommodation options on the island if you want a break from caravan life.

Head south and you have the magnificent Margaret River region, famous for wine and food production and great surfing. Holiday parks to check in at include the Big 4 at Middleton Beach, Taunton Farm, Emu Beach, Denmark Beach and Beachlands.

North from Perth along the coast and you can discover great places right up what is known as the Coral Coast and beyond to the Kimberley. Take the Indian Ocean Drive or Coral Coast Drive. There are many great parks where you can stay including Geraldton, Exmouth, the famous Monkey Mia, Ledge Point and right up to Broome.

A trip to WA wouldn’t be complete without an experience in the outback and there are a number of free camping sites which may suit caravan travellers with self-contained vehicles.

There is a drive which WA tourism sites refer to as the Great Kimberley Wilderness Loop which allows you to connect with the 40,000 year old culture of the area. The route is Broome to Kununurra and covers nearly 7000 klms. Due to the seasonal weather it is recommended to travel in May through October.

Whichever direction you choose, a caravan adventure in WA is sure to be an experience of a lifetime!
