Many caravan manufacturers offer buyers a great selection of extras and accessories and options so each purchaser can customise their RV to suit their specific lifestyle and travel needs. The accessories which could increase the safety of your caravan, yourself and your fellow travellers.
When including accessories and extras in the same purchase order as the vehicle itself, your Jade Caravan Finance consultant can, in most instances, include those costs in the overall caravan loan package. We cover off on why fire safety and security measures are important and how we can assist buyers to ensure they have the correct equipment for their vehicle.
Fire and Rescue NSW Advice for Caravan Owners
The surge of interest in purchasing caravans over the past few years due to the pandemic, has led to an increase in new RV owners on the roads, in free camp sites and in caravan parks. Fire and Rescue NSW has noted this fact and issued timely reminders on social media around fire safety.
Fire and Rescue NSW advise caravan owners to:-
- Ensure the caravan has a working smoke alarm.
- Ensure the caravan is equipped with a dry chemical powder fire extinguisher and fire blanket.
- Locate the extinguisher and blanket near the exit.
- Ensure that the LPG cylinders have been correctly secured.
- Ensure the hose lines and fittings are in good working order.
- Avoid the use of candles and open flame in the caravan.
- Do no smoke inside a caravan.
When staying in a holiday park or free camp site, authorities also advise caravan owners to know the exact location and street name in case there is a fire and they need to call 000. When in a park, check out the location of evacuation locations and hose reels on arrival.
When storing a caravan when not in use, make sure all precautions are followed in regard to gas bottles and other fire safety issues.
When buying a new RV from a caravan manufacturer or dealer, add fire safety equipment to that list of extras. Many manufacturers will no doubt include some of this equipment as standard but you may like to upgrade or add extra items for additional peace of mind.
Security Equipment
The whole point of the caravan lifestyle is to enjoy a laid-back and relaxing time on the road or on holiday. But while you’re being carefree there can be others that are all too ready to take advantage of any situations to steal possessions.
Ensure your new caravan is equipped with good security measures to protect both the vehicle itself and your contents. Caravans have plenty of electronics which can be appealing to thieves as well as your own personal possessions.
At the time of ordering a new caravan, speak with the dealer or manufacturer about what additional security measures they can install. These may include alarms, additional locks for windows and doors and to secure external tunnel boots and accessories. Also discuss what devices can be installed to protect against theft of the caravan itself.
Insurance is required when purchasing a caravan with finance. When considering a policy ensure you are clear around what is and isn’t included, especially in regard to contents and any accessories.
When not using your vehicle, make sure it is stored in a safe place and in a safe manner.
