For caravan owners who like to travel far and wide, it’s certainly been a difficult few years. On and off again and constantly changing, border restrictions have meant a lot of changed plans, altered routes and new destinations to discover. For many in a position to at least get out on the road it has been a great time. But many caravan owners from NSW and Victoria would be have been looking forward to heading north and enjoying all the delights that Queensland has to offer. Finally, there is good news for caravanners with their sights on travelling north. We deliver the latest good news for caravan travellers around the QLD border opening and other updates on topics of interest.
Queensland Border to Reopen Earlier
Queensland has implemented strict border restrictions throughout the pandemic. The border with NSW was not expected to reopen until closer to Christmas, but Premier Anastasia Palaszcuk has announced the date will be brought forward to 1am on Monday 13 December.
So what do caravan travellers need to know? The border will be open for fully vaccinated interstate travellers from hot spots. Travellers will need to produce a COVID-19 negative test in the 72 hours prior to their entry into the state.
Travellers can now arrive in Qld by air and by road – so it’s time to hitch up the caravan. Quarantine is not required for the fully vaccinated. No doubt the state will be bracing for a surge of holidaymakers and returning residents who have waited a long time for this opportunity. Authorities are calling for planning and patience, so if you intend to caravan up north, take heed and do your planning.
When planning a Queensland holiday this summer, remember that flooding has occurred in some central and southern parts of the state. This will have an effect on roads especially unsealed roads. Those planning to visit off-road locations should research ahead for road conditions and suitability of camp sites and other free camping options.
The recent rainfall and flooding may affect drinking water supply in some areas so you may need to take your own additional supplies. Demand will be strong for popular holiday parks, so book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Industry Award Winners
Victoria is a major manufacturing hub for the caravan industry with a plethora of leading RV builders and suppliers located in the state. With such a focus, it’s not surprising that great interest would be given to the Victorian Caravan Industry Awards. With so many great members in the running, who would take out the major gong this year?
The Association’s Gala Awards was held recently in Melbourne with awards handed out in a range of categories. But the one of most interest to our new caravan buyers will be the Excellence in Caravan and RV Manufacturing – the best manufacturer of the year.
For 2021 the winner of Best Manufacturer was awarded to Crusader Caravans, their second win in this prestigious category. Based in Epping Victoria, Crusader manufactures a stellar range of caravans and we have featured the brand in our blog articles.
This is a great accolade for the company and could be the motivation you need to take a look at their range for your new caravan purchase.
Caravan Safety Reminders
Caravan sales have surged of late and that means there will be a lot more RVs on the road over the summer holidays. For both new and long-term caravan owners, it’s worthwhile refreshing your knowledge around safety when towing a caravan.
The Caravan Industry Association initiated a safety campaign in November and it could be worth revisiting the information.
Key take-outs from recent research indicate that Monday and Sunday are the days when RV road users are more likely to have a crash as these are the popular days to return home. Accidents are more likely to happen in the morning between 10am and noon with more fatalities on regional roads.
When purchasing a new caravan take the safety messaging on board and ensure you and your caravan are well-equipped for the towing task. In regards to equipment, speak with your Jade consultant about how we can assist by including any upgrades of safety gear in your caravan finance deal. Doing so won’t impact the interest rate offered on a Secured Caravan Loan but it will enable you to cover the cost of extras with the one loan repayment.
