Chill-seeker update – winter RV news: Deals, Shows, Caravan Finance Interest Rates

Caravan finance interest rates are set by lenders and based on individual applications, with most lenders holding rates steady after the RBA June cash rate hold. Following three consecutive RBA rate increases, the latest decision is welcomed, but uncertainties still remain over the future direction for interest rates across many markets.

But for now, if you’re a chill-seeking traveller, then this winter could present great opportunities to buy a new RV with finance and to stay with park discounts. EOFY deals are in full swing, rates are on hold, the Ipswich RV show is coming up, and some park operators are offering discounts.

Winter has been one of the warmest on record. While the cold snap will no doubt arrive, conditions could be ideal to get out on the road and enjoy the quieter time for RV travel and holidays. We update on some of the latest news in the RV sector.

RBA Hold – Caravan Finance Interest Rates Update

Those in the market for a new RV and requiring finance, will no doubt be keeping a keen eye on the interest rate situation. Lenders set their own rates and rates in general vary across lending markets in response to cash rate decisions by the Reserve Bank.

At the June RBA Monetary Board meeting, the decision was made to hold the cash rate steady, following three rate increase decisions. In announcing the decision, RBA Governor Michele Bullock said that inflation was still too high, and some businesses were increasing prices due to their own cost pressures.

Ms Bullock said that there continues to be uncertainties around the outlook for economic activity and inflation in Australia and the effects of the Middle East conflict. The rate of inflation is likely to stay at a high level for some time, and the Board continues to focus on making sure that the current high levels do not become embedded.

Most lenders would be expected to keep their rates steady following this latest decision. The Board next meets to make a rate decision on 10-11 August so buyers may expect current caravan finance interest rates to remain the same at least the next decision.

What will happen at the August RBA meeting? Based on the media reports, economists appear to be split on what to expect next. Some saying they do not think the rate rise cycle was over and we could see another 0.25% rise later this year. Others seem to disagree, but amongst those that do, most do not expect rate cuts until possibly 2027.

In response to questions on the market’s forecasts in the press conference following the decision, Ms Bullock said that if inflation did not respond as the Board expects it to, then there may be more to do. That typically translates as more increases. Keep an eye on the inflation figures as they are released from the ABS as they could hold the key to what will happen with interest rates.
