RVs on sale can be offered with varying discounts and deals with terms and conditions often applying, which buyers should consider and on which they may seek expert advice. Sales are a great time for caravan and camper buyers to get into the on-the-road lifestyle or upgrade their current vehicle. But with many different types of discounting used by sellers, plus the asterisks, the T&C’s and the implications of ‘from’, buyers need to be informed.
Fully understanding the deal being offered can place buyers in the best position to compare brands, models and loans to ensure they are making the right decisions. There are great deals to be found at this time of year as dealers and manufacturers clear their stock.
The ACCC is the government body responsible for pricing and competition and is a useful source for information and advice for buyers. A few red flags to immediately check on any offers are asterisks, the terms and conditions, and if a price has ‘from’ included. Read the details and ask questions to ensure you know exactly what you are buying and the deal you are receiving. To assist buyers to differentiate the offers, we provide this overview of the terminology used in sales events.
RVs on Sale With a Discount
Caravans advertised with a discount on the purchase price are the simplest offers for most buyers to understand. The deal may be a percentage or a set dollar amount. Buyers may find manufacturers advertising discounted stock which buyers have to source through the dealers.
The details to check are what specific models the discount applies to. Is it the entire range? Is it only some models within collections? Is the discounted model suitable to your caravanning purposes?

RVs on Sale With a Cashback
Cashbacks are widely used as a type of discounting on many goods. While this offer does represent a price cut, the onus is on the buyer to claim their discount. The vehicle is usually sold by the dealer and the cash back or rebate needs to be claimed through the manufacturer.
If buying a caravan with financing, the full purchase price, before the cash back is applied, will need to be covered to take delivery. Advice from the ACCC regarding cash backs is to check any expiry date for when the rebate needs to be claimed by, what the process actually is, and how long it will be before you receive your money.
Clearances and Run-out RVs on Sale
Manufacturers are regularly launching new models in their ranges. When this happens, dealers have to be ready to take delivery of the new stock to meet buyer interest. With the size of recreational vehicles, being ready usually means having the showroom or warehouse space for the new models.
To assist their dealers, manufacturers, or the dealers themselves, can regularly run clearances and caravan run-out sales. These represent great opportunities to buy a model that is being retired, at a reduced price.
Details to check are what models are being cleared. Does that vehicle suit your travel plans? If it is a demo model with all the extras and accessories, do you really need all those features, despite the reduced price? Is the price still within your budget?
Especially with extremely popular caravans and campers, there can be limited numbers of units available with clearances. There may be limited numbers overall and only a few caravans available from your local dealer. Researching what is available from what dealers can streamline the buying process.

RVs on Sale With Dealer Finance Offers
Financing offered at the point-of-purchase, dealer finance, has been around for a long time and is provided to assist dealers to quickly convert lookers to buyers. This type of finance is offered through a third party – the dealer or manufacturer’s credit partner, usually a finance company.
At sale time, these offers may include an exceptionally low interest rate advertised. As required by Consumer Credit Laws, a Comparison Rate should be displayed. These offers should be scrutinised closely by buyers and a quote from Jade sourced to compare.
Is the type of loan offered suitable for you? Does the low advertised rate extend for the full term of the loan? If not, for how long does it apply and what rate applies after that? Who is eligible and what terms and conditions apply? What is the total interest that is accrued over the loan?
Many low rate dealer or manufacturer finance deals have a ‘promotional’ interest rate — a low rate for the initial part of the term. After that expires, a much higher rate can apply. Use our Finance Calculator to see how our competitive fixed rates, which apply over the full fixed term, and are especially sourced for you from 80+ lenders, compare.
